Introducing Janika Rehn as Development Manager

Hello,
I started at Infrakit at the beginning of May. I am originally from the Helsinki area in Finland, where I also got my master’s degree in Transportation and Environmental Engineering with a specialization in geotechnical and rock engineering at Aalto University. Since then, I have also completed studies for Global BIM Management for Infrastructure Projects. I started my career as a geotechnical engineer at Pöyry Finland. In 2015 Pöyry offered me an expat position involving BIM and design coordination in the Follo Line EPC project in Oslo, which I gladly accepted. What was supposed to be 1-2 years in Norway slowly turned into a permanent residency in Norway. After Follo Line I have worked as BIM Lead at Implenia Norway and at Sporveien, the facility owner for the metro and tram infrastructure in Oslo Region. In both positions I have been responsible for development of the organization’s BIM strategy, BIM use-cases, model-based workflows and BIM requirements for development projects.

While I got drawn into BIM mainly because I thought it was a lot of fun, my main motivation to keeping on working with BIM has always been the enormous potential digital workflows have for making the construction industry more sustainable for the environment. I wanted to join Infrakit because I saw that it is a company filled with people that share the same vision.

I have seen that Infrakit has a very international team of employees with a lot of and varied range of different types of experience from the industry. I am looking forward to exchanging ideas and gaining new perspectives to the old problems from my colleagues.

On my free-time I enjoy traveling and getting to know other cultures, which is why I also do volunteer work for AFS, a non-profit organization specializing in intercultural learning. For relaxation I enjoy my yoga practice and dancing different styles ranging from classical ballet to contemporary jazz and salsa. During the weekends I love escaping to the Norwegian mountains with my boyfriend for some skiing or trekking, depending on the season.

ProDigial research programme awarded at the Kuntatekniikan päivät infrastructure event in Pori, Finland – Infrakit part of pilot projects in Lahti and Jyväskylä

The ProDigial research programme of the university’s Research Centre Terra was awarded as a successful development project at the Kuntatekniikan päivät-infrastructure event held in Pori.

The Finnish Association of Municipal Engineering (FAME) gives out the “Kuntatekniikka development initiative achievement” award annually to significant construction and development projects that have a wide national impact.

The aim of the research programme is to develop means and operating models that improve productivity, promote the utilisation of digitalisation throughout the entire life cycle of the infrastructure and provide an overall picture of the system. Practical infrastructure projects testing new means and operating models form an integral part of the research. (8 June 2022 tuni.fi)

Infrakit has been involved in the research in the pilot projects carried out in Lahti and Jyväskylä.

The infrastructure project carried out at an old garrison in Hennala, Lahti, focuses on the construction of a residential area for 5,000 people, in a manner that respects its history and using the early contractor involvement model. The aim of the project, in which Infrakit is a key application provider and development partner, is to develop an operating model for setting and verifying quality requirements.

The pilot project carried out in Jyväskylä aims to develop BIM utilisation in site management. The project focusing on the restoration of River Tourujoki functions as the development platform. In the project, Infrakit acts as a key application provider that carries out the practical work to provide a snapshot for site management.

Status reporting and as documented

The pilots will be systematically monitored according to the project plan. The project’s results will then be compared and measured with the original goals defined in the workshops. After the project, we will create a final report that clearly records the project’s challenges, benefits, and possibilities. Based on this information, we will create a follow-up action plan for the customer, which will further help the practical work and the digitalization of designing and building through concrete actions.

Real time situational awareness and project progress status can be found in the platform with different devices like smartphones and tablets which are easy to use on site. Project progress monitoring can be done with the help of surveying and machine control log points, photos, orthophotos and drone views.

About Srikanta’s background

I am Srikanta Patra and I am very happy to start my new position as QA Lead and enjoying the nice working culture of Infrakit. I was born & brought up in India and completed my Engineering in Information Technology & MBA in Retails & Supply Chain Management

During the previous 15 years I have worked in QA Area which includes database, API, Performance & Automation in different domains like Banking, Retails and clients like Nordea, FISKARS & NESTE.

Why did you want to join Infrakit?

Joining Infrakit felt like a unique opportunity to be a part of an energetic team. It is always motivating to work with new technologies like Cloud platforms, Api, mobile in infra domain.

What are you looking forward to the most in the future?

Adding Quality Assurance as a service to Infrakit products both front-end and back-end services so that our customer experience will be always good irrespective of our service zone.

What do you enjoy outside of office hours?

During my free time I enjoy Badminton, Cricket and travelling to different cities around the world. Now a days I enjoy parenting and spend many hours in Hoplop with my 3-year-old son.
