Infrakit helps to improve quality control for infra owners

Infrakit helps to improve quality control for infra owners

In our previous blog we talked about streamlining infra owner’s project management. To help answer the rising demand for digitalization and sustainability in the infrastructure sector, Infrakit provides a cloud platform to help you manage your projects efficiently.

In this blog we’ll discuss quality control improvements in infra projects.

Built correctly from the start with automatic quality documentation

Infrakit ensures that all project parties can work efficiently without wasting resources with the bonus of documentation being completed simultaneously.

Because of our continuous documentation for progress, quality control and handover materials, you can easily stay on top of what’s being done at the worksite and make sure everyone works with the correct information from the start. This helps avoid unnecessary reworks which saves time and costs.

Project Manager Kadi Tuum from the Estonian Transport Administration said “We had problems with the quality of the lower asphalt surface. I asked the site engineer to register all the places in Infrakit with a picture, where the lower asphalt pavement had defects. After a few years when the top asphalt might have defects, it’s easy for me to inspect the site using Infrakit Field app to disassemble the situation that was at this particular location.”

“All plans and real-time quality assignments are handled through Infrakit. This is important for the owner of the project, who wants quality recognition to take place immediately during the work and not with the traditional way of delay. Without Infrakit, quality designation would not only be delayed, but it would also require more work: quality reports and their storage in a project bank. Now there is no need for it, but all quality measurements and as-built measurements are displayed in real time when the points are taken.”

Overall quality improvement

With the platform construction’s overall quality is improved by real-time monitoring. Real-time view of the project enables you to fix errors and make quick changes, when necessary. This saves time and helps you stay within the schedule.

“From my point of view as the Quality Manager, Infrakit makes monitoring the project in the field so much easier. There is no need to travel 35 kilometres for every little thing when I can just check it from my PC screen at the office. I am not tied to a time or place. It has been a big relief — I can see in real-time how the project is progressing”.

Jussi Laamanen, Quality Manager YIT on case E18 Hamina – Vaalimaa

Streamlined infra project management for project owners

Streamlined infra project management for project owners

Growing pressure for sustainability and digitalization in the infrastructure sector is raising questions for infra owners. How to control high risk projects from delivery failures, keep the schedule, stay within the budget while maintaining great quality in a public procurement environment?

Infrakit offers a centralized cloud platform for infra owners to streamline their project management.

Real-time situational awareness and progress reporting

Infrakit enables a real-time map view of the project’s progress and status in all project phases. This makes sure that the project is completed as planned, with documentation being created simultaneously. This enables you to build with less errors, reworking and claims.

Kadi Tuum, Project Manager from Estonian Transport Administration says that “from the owner’s point of view, it is very convenient to be able to record the problems that have arisen on the map with the route during the whole construction period. This makes it much easier to identify the causes of defects and resolve disputes during the warranty period. “

Shorter project delivery time with savings in total project costs

Because all project parties have access to the same information from designs to any changes of plans at the same time, projects can move forward faster without the need to send information around. This leads to savings in total project costs. All of this is possible while increasing the quality of the project.

Infrakit’s wide variety of integration partners gives you the change to choose freely which software and equipment you prefer to use.

Tampere Tramway is being completed ahead of schedule with savings up to 30 million euros

Tampere Tramway is being completed ahead of schedule with savings up to 30 million euros

This is a rare sight in bigger construction projects, but it has happened in Tampere. The first phase of the project will be completed ahead of schedule this summer with savings of approximately 30 million euros.

Traffic in the Hatanpää area will start in August earlier than planned. Originally this part of the project was supposed to be completed by the end of this year.

According to Sari Valjus, the project manager of the Tramway Alliance on their press release (in finnish) they will stay about 30 million euros under the target budget. (YLE 16.4.2021.)

Check out the original article in finnish here.

Infrakit was used in the project as a handover tool, meaning that all the handover material of the project is compiled on the platform and delivered to the client. As the material is transferred, they go through the sites to be handed over, related documents etc. in Infrakit with the client. Infrakit is also the tool for Development phase 2, which means that initial data for planning, alternatives for track lines etc. are collected there and can be viewed on a mobile phone during field visits.

Samu Karlsson joins Infrakit as a BIM Manager

Samu Karlsson joins Infrakit as a BIM Manager

Hello everybody! My name is Samu, and I have worked as a BIM manager in the Services team since the start of February. I have a Master of Science degree in Geoengineering from Aalto University. The focus of my studies consisted of rock and foundation engineering with additional geology and geophysics studies on the side.

I have an extensive soon 25-year history of working in both civil and mechanical engineering industry. While living in the USA for 8 years, I worked for Metso Minerals at the North American headquarters. I supervised a team of engineers responsible for the design, parametric 3D-models and manufacturing drawings of crushers, screens and conveyors for quarries. I provided both internal as well as international training for implementation of advanced modelling techniques and oversaw development of new methods for producing quality deliverables.

After returning to Finland, I worked nearly 9 years at A-Insinöörit in a department specializing in tunnels and underground structures. In my position my expertise was managing BIM development and organizing team and project support related to design and modeling issues. I am a well-versed user of several software packages. In addition, my duties included writing of manuals, offering hands-on training and refining information management processes.

In my free time my wife and I enjoy exploring the world and spending time outdoors. I enjoy travelling, hiking, photography and music in various forms. I recently rediscovered and reignited my passion for playing guitar.

At Infrakit my duties include product and process development, customer support, improving data transfer between design applications and involvement in international operations. I am immensely excited to work with a team of seasoned experts with a passionate drive! I am convinced that we have a platform and provide services that enable collaboration between infra professionals in a way that will ultimately reform the landscape of infra construction – worldwide.
